Brief discussion about CKD globally and the main reason why so mamy people globally developing CKD. Dr Alok did say the CKD is growing with time as there are various risk factors related with CKD that he talked. Even as per the joint statement in 2021 by world's largest society, American Society of Nephrology, International society of Nephrology and the European Society of Nephology. As per the statement the prevalence of Nephrology is around 850 million people globally, this is double the number of diabetes patient and 20 times patients suffering from cancer and account to 1.2 million deaths annually. If accounted with cardiovascular death associated with its around 2.6 million deaths annually, said Dr Alok.
He also discussed about the uncontrolled blood sugar and Blood Pressure that damages Kidney damages as asked by the Host Anup. He responded in depth the various reason causing kidney damages and the impact of blood sugars as a major harm for Kidney. He explained the role of diabetes in the kidney damage. he explained details about the units in each kidney(nephrons) and with age factor some functions of kidneys are lost. Detail function of kidney related with the units (1 million in each kidney) was explained. How to measure the kidney function was explained with the term GFR. Many more topics was also discussed related with Diabetes and Kidney and impact of food & Nutrition on metabolic disorders.

About Dr Alok Gupta

Dr Alok Gupta is a nephrologist with over 20 years of experience in treating a wide range of both acute and chronic renal conditions. Basically, from New Delhi, India, Alok received training in general medicine and advanced training in nephrology. He then went on to complete a two year clinical fellowship in nephrology in Toronto, Canada. Upon his arrival in Australia, he practiced at Mildura Base Hospital. In 2015 he was awarded his fellowship in medicine and nephrology by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
He moved to Toowoomba, Regional Queensland in early 2016 and since then, has been practicing both at public and private sectors. His practice is now permanently based in Toowoomba. His area of Interest includes metabolic syndrome and its management through lifestyle changes and medications, resistant hypertension, CKD and its associated complications, and renal stone disease.
