FIBROMYALGIA OVERVIEW

Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain and spinal cord process painful and nonpainful signals.

CAUSES

There is no single known causeTrusted Source of fibromyalgia, but following are assumed

  1. Obesity (High Weight)
  2. Genetics,way the genes regulate how a person processes painful stimuli
  3. CNS problems
  4. RA or other autoimmune conditions, such as lupus
  5. Repetitive injuries
  6. Traumatic emotional or physical events,stressful, traumatic physical or emotional event, such as a car accident
  7. sleep and mood disorders . 

SYMPTOMS

The primary symptoms 

  1. Widespread pain. Constant dull ache can last upto least three months. To be considered widespread, pain occur on both sides of body above and below your waist.
  2. Fatigue. Wakeup tired, despite sleeping for long periods of time. Sleep disrupted by pain, and have other sleep disorders, such as restless legs syndrome and sleep apnea.
  3. Cognitive difficulties. Referred to as "fibro fog" impairs the ability to focus, pay attention and concentrate on mental tasks.

Co-exists with other conditions, such as:

  1. Irritable bowel syndrome
  2. Chronic fatigue syndrome
  3. Migraine and other types of headaches
  4. Interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome
  5. Temporomandibular joint disorders
  6. Anxiety
  7. Depression
  8. Postural tachycardia syndrome
